Blackpool Pleasure Beach Unveils Exciting £8.72M Ride Plans

14

Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach Resort has unveiled plans for a new £8.72 million ride, set to be the biggest of its kind in the United Kingdom. The park will introduce a Gyro Swing in 2026, with work already underway.

This ride is a giant spinning pendulum that swings 120 degrees and reaches a staggering height of 138 feet at its apex. Accommodating 40 riders facing outwards with their legs dangling, it promises an exhilarating sensation of flight.

While other swinging pendulum rides exist in the UK, none match the sheer scale of the Pleasure Beach model in terms of height.

“We’re thrilled to confirm the addition of a Gyro Swing at Pleasure Beach Resort, with work already underway. We’re well known for doing things on a large scale, so becoming home to the largest Gyro Swing in the UK made complete sense.”

“The Gyro Swing is one of the most exciting flat rides in existence – it’s dynamic, fast, and incredibly high, as well as being completely weightless at the top. It will be a fantastic addition to our ride line-up and we can’t wait to see people’s reactions when they experience it for the first time.”

“We’ll be announcing more details soon and we’re very excited for the future at Pleasure Beach Resort.”

CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, Amanda Thompson OBE

Preparatory work commenced earlier this year with the demolition of the former Bowl-A-Drome building.

Key Features of Gyro Swing Rides

  • Pendulum Motion – The ride consists of a giant arm that swings back and forth, reaching near-vertical angles.
  • Rotating Gondola – The circular seating arrangement (or gondola) rotates as it swings, adding a dynamic spinning effect.
  • High Speeds & G-Forces – Riders experience high speeds (often over 60 mph) and intense G-forces, especially at the peak of the swing.
  • Height & Thrill Factor – Some of the tallest gyro swings exceed 150 feet in height, providing breathtaking views before plunging back down.
  • Seating Arrangement – Riders sit in outward-facing seats with their legs dangling, enhancing the sense of exposure.
  • Safety Features – Over-the-shoulder restraints and hydraulic locking systems ensure rider security.

The ride and its location were officially confirmed at Pleasure Beach’s season launch event. It will be situated in the northern part of the park, close to the perimeter, providing riders with the sensation of being swung over the sea.
