What is Alton Towers After Dark?

After Dark is a limited-time event where the park stays open later than usual, giving you the chance to ride in the dark — a completely different (and often more intense) experience.

  • Ride in darkness for extra thrills
  • Soak up the park’s night-time atmosphere
  • Perfect for photos with lit-up coasters and pathways

Opening Hours

  • Park Open: 10:00 AM
  • Park Close: 8:00 PM

That’s a full 10 hours in the park, with the final hours offering the true “After Dark” experience as the sun sets.

Ride Closures & Availability

Before you go, it’s important to know that several major attractions are currently unavailable:

Temporarily Closed

  • Skyride – closed for essential maintenance
  • Monorail – closed for essential maintenance
  • Runaway Mine Train – closed for essential maintenance
  • Oblivion – closed for essential maintenance

Opening Soon (Not Yet Available)

his means queue times may be higher on remaining major rides, so plan accordingly.

What Rides Are Worth Prioritising?

With fewer rides open, these are your must-dos during After Dark:

  • Nemesis Reborn – even more intense at night
  • Wicker Man – the fire effects look incredible in the dark
  • The Smiler – disorienting layout becomes even crazier after sunset
  • Rita – high-speed launch feels faster in low light

Weather Forecast

Here’s what to expect over the final days:

Friday

  • Cloudy with rain and drizzle at times
  • Possible brighter spells later
  • Breezy
  • Max temperature: 11°C

Weekend Outlook

  • Saturday: Cold, blustery with sunny spells and showers
  • Sunday: Windy with periods of rain
  • Monday: Breezy but drier and slightly milder

Expect cold conditions, especially in the evening — it will feel much colder after sunset.

Is It Still Worth Going?

Absolutely — even with some closures.

The night riding experience alone makes After Dark one of the most unique times to visit Alton Towers.

If anything, the limited availability adds urgency — and with only two days left, this is your final chance until the next late-night event.
