Folly Farm is setting sail into the next chapter of its much-loved Pirate Adventure Play with the eagerly awaited Phase Two now underway.

A Castle Reimagined

After more than two decades of delighting pint-sized buccaneers, the beloved castle play area is being retired—at least temporarily. Starting Monday, September 8, building work will kick off to transform it into a bold new pirate-themed fortress, complete with knight elements and a nod to Welsh heritage—yes, there’s even a Welsh dragon in the mix!

Building on Phase One’s Success

The first phase, Pirate Island, debuted last October and has been a runaway hit with families ever since. That phase introduced a towering treehouse, slides, pirate flags, and features designed for accessibility—including wheelchair ramps, a companion slide, wet-pour rubber surfaces, and interactive areas at wheelchair height.

Key Partners Behind the Magic

  • Adventure Playgrounds Wales, based in Cardiganshire, returns with a design that respects the classic pirate theme while leveraging the latest playground innovations
  • Red Lynch Leisure will manage the build using Lappset equipment and premium Scandinavian hardwood, ensuring longevity and play quality

This phase continues Folly Farm’s commitment to sustainability and inclusivity, echoing the environmental ethos seen in Phase One. Expect accessible play features and eco-conscious materials throughout again.

Good news for families—Pirate Island, Black Bart’s Pirate Cove, and other adventure zones remain open as usual during construction

Folly Farm plans to keep the public updated on construction milestones and the new opening date via its social media channels. Guests eager to return to pirate play are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates.
