Construction on Alton Towers’ newest family attraction has reached a major milestone this week, as Bluey the Ride: Here Come The Grannies! successfully completed its first test run.

Early test footage and reports from within the resort confirm that the ride’s impressive multi-row train has now been sent around the track for the first time, signalling that the project is entering its commissioning phase ahead of opening.

A standout 14-row train

One of the most striking features of the new attraction is its unusually large ride vehicle. The train is configured with 14 rows, making it one of the highest-capacity family ride vehicles currently operating at Alton Towers.

The extended train design is expected to deliver several operational advantages:

  • Higher hourly throughput, helping reduce queue times
  • Improved group capacity, allowing families to ride together
  • Enhanced visual presence, creating a more dynamic ride experience

The scale of the train also hints at the ride’s ambition to become a headline family offering within the park’s lineup.

The attraction is themed around the globally popular children’s series Bluey, specifically drawing inspiration from the fan-favourite “Grannies” storyline. The ride’s title — Here Come The Grannies! — suggests guests will join Bluey and Bingo in a playful adventure centred on the characters’ chaotic granny alter egos.

Alton Towers has yet to confirm an official opening date, but the sight of trains now circulating the track provides the clearest sign yet that guests will soon be able to ride.
