On June 14th, 2000, a new legend was born on the shores of Blackpool. With fire, ice, thunder, and an unmatched theatrical flair, Valhalla opened its gates to the public at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and theme park fans across the UK were never the same again.
Now, in 2025, this legendary water dark ride celebrates an incredible 25 years of operation – a quarter-century of soaking guests, stunning senses, and standing proud as one of the most ambitious and iconic rides the UK has ever seen.

A Ride Like No Other
When Valhalla first launched, it immediately made headlines for its jaw-dropping scale and special effects. Costing a reported £15 million to build, it was hailed as one of the most expensive water rides ever created at the time. The attraction took riders on a journey through the ancient Norse underworld, blending fire, ice, darkness, and myth into an unforgettable experience.
What set Valhalla apart wasn’t just the narrative theming – it was the sheer scale of its ambition. Riders brave multiple plunges, extreme temperatures, and sensory effects that included real flames, ice blasts, wind tunnels, thunder crashes, and of course, a very generous helping of water. You never quite left the boat the same way you got in – and that was part of the magic.
A Cult Classic
Over the years, Valhalla developed a dedicated following. While many rides come and go, Valhalla endured, becoming a must-ride for thrill-seekers and dark ride enthusiasts alike. Its epic soundtrack, dramatic set pieces, and theatrical immersion turned it into more than just a ride – it was an experience, and one that became a rite of passage for UK theme park fans.
For 25 years, it’s offered everything from mists to fiery infernos, and it remains one of the few rides where guests willingly get soaked to the bone for the sheer joy of it.

The Grand Reimagining
In 2020, just before its 20th birthday, Valhalla closed for an ambitious overhaul. After a few years of anticipation, delays, and excitement, the ride finally reopened to guests in 2023 – refreshed, reimagined, and even more intense.
While retaining its core identity and structure, the new Valhalla brought upgraded effects, enhanced storytelling, and new surprises that kept fans guessing and gasping. Blackpool Pleasure Beach succeeded in preserving the soul of the original while future-proofing it for a new generation.
Looking to the Future
As Valhalla turns 25, it remains a symbol of creativity and bold storytelling in the UK theme park industry. It’s a ride that dared to go big – and it succeeded. In an age where immersive experiences are more in demand than ever, Valhalla continues to show just how powerful a well-executed theme ride can be.
So here’s to you, Valhalla – thank you for 25 incredible years of thrills, chills, and soaking wet smiles. Long may you reign!
