Blackpool Pleasure Beach has officially reopened its iconic drop tower ride under a new name and theme. Formerly known as Ice Blast, the ride has been reimagined as “Launch Pad” and welcomed thrill-seekers back on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Originally launched in 1997 as PlayStation: The Ride, the attraction later became Ice Blast. Now, as Launch Pad, it features a space exploration theme and a striking blue and red color scheme. The ride propels guests 210 feet into the air at speeds reaching 80 mph, delivering intense G-forces and moments of weightlessness.
After months of hard work, we’re thrilled to now be unveiling Launch Pad to the public. Our team has poured so much creativity, passion, and expertise into this bold reimagining, and I can’t wait for guests to experience it.
Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort
Launch Pad’s reopening is part of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s ongoing efforts to blend nostalgic attractions with modern thrills, ensuring a diverse and exciting experience for all visitors.

Just saw the pictures, and the colour scheme is just stunning! Blackpool Pleasure Beach never disappoints.
‘PlayStation: The Ride’ was my childhood favorite, so excited to see how they’ve taken it to new heights!
Love the new theme for the ride! Can’t wait to try Launch Pad next time I visit!
I remember when it was Ice Blast. This space theme seems like such a cool update. Can’t wait to experience it.
