When Universal Studios announced its plans to build a brand-new theme park in the UK, fans immediately began speculating: Would we see another Wizarding World of Harry Potter?
After all, the Harry Potter lands at Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood have been hugely successful.

However, despite the franchise’s global popularity, it’s now clear that Universal Studios Great Britain will not feature a Harry Potter-themed area. Here’s why.
The Existing Exclusivity with Warner Bros. Studio Tour London
The biggest reason is simple: Warner Bros. already has an exclusive grip on Harry Potter attractions in the UK.
The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, located in Leavesden (just north of London), is the official home of Harry Potter experiences in Britain.
It offers fans the chance to walk through authentic film sets, costumes, props, and behind-the-scenes magic from the movies — and it remains a massive tourist draw year-round.
Warner Bros. has reportedly signed exclusive agreements that prevent other companies — including Universal — from building competing Harry Potter attractions in the UK.
This agreement protects the uniqueness (and profitability) of the Studio Tour experience.
Why It Matters
If Universal Studios UK were to add a Wizarding World area, it could create brand confusion and split the audience.
Instead of competing with Warner Bros. (and potentially damaging important licensing relationships), Universal appears to be respecting the existing deal.
In short:
- Leavesden’s Studio Tour holds the Harry Potter rights for attractions in the UK.
- Universal can’t — and won’t — create a competing Harry Potter land in its British park.
What Will Replace Harry Potter at Universal Studios UK?
While Harry Potter is off the table, Universal is doubling down on other blockbuster franchises for the UK park.
Some expected worlds and rides (but not confirmed) include:
- A James Bond-themed MI6 Experience (exclusive to the UK)
- A Paddington Bear London-themed land (perfect for families)
- Jurassic World dinosaur attractions
- The Lord of the Rings Middle-earth realm (highly speculated)
- Back to the Future time-travel rides
- Despicable Me and Minions adventures
Rather than repeating what Universal has done elsewhere, it seems they are crafting a bespoke lineup — tailored to British pop culture and international icons.
While some fans might be disappointed at the lack of a Wizarding World in Universal Studios UK, it could actually be a good thing.
This park now has the freedom to introduce fresh, new experiences instead of recycling attractions we’ve already seen elsewhere.
It’s an exciting opportunity to create something truly unique for British and European audiences.
Universal Studios Great Britain is scheduled to open in 2031 in Bedfordshire — and even without Harry Potter, it’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated theme park openings in decades.
