When you think of roller coasters in the UK, your mind might immediately jump to the likes of Hyperia, The Smiler or Nemesis Reborn.
But there’s another UK destination that packs an impressive collection of roller coasters into a relatively small space — and you might be surprised by just how many it has.
Adventure Island in Southend-on-Sea currently has five operating roller coasters.
Yes, five.
And while most theme park fans will instantly be able to name Rage, can you remember the other four?
How Many Roller Coasters Does Adventure Island Have?
Adventure Island’s current ride listings feature five roller coasters: Rage, Green Scream, Mighty Mini Mega, Barnstormer and Kiddi-Koasta.
What makes the collection particularly interesting is the variety.
Rather than having five huge thrill machines, Adventure Island’s coaster line-up covers everything from a gentle first coaster for young riders through to Rage, a much more intense ride featuring a beyond-vertical drop and inversions.
That means the park has something for families introducing children to roller coasters as well as experienced thrill seekers.
So, let’s take a look at all five.
1. Rage
Let’s start with the obvious one.
Rage is Adventure Island’s headline roller coaster and by far its biggest thrill ride.
Opened in 2007, the Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter reaches around 22 metres in height and features a 97-degree first drop, meaning riders plunge beyond vertical. It also features three inversions.
Adventure Island describes Rage as its biggest and best roller coaster, with loops, twists and high speeds. Riders need to be at least 120cm tall.
The ride was also a major investment for the park, costing around £3 million when it was built. Adventure Island says the construction required several existing attractions to be relocated to make room for it.
For many visitors, Rage is the first coaster that comes to mind when they think about Adventure Island.
But it’s only one of five.

2. Green Scream
Next up is Green Scream, one of Adventure Island’s most recognisable family coasters.
And yes, the crocodile theme is a big part of its identity.
Adventure Island describes Green Scream as its very own crocodile coaster, taking riders around the edge of the park.
It has a minimum height requirement of 100cm, making it accessible to considerably younger riders than Rage. Children under 120cm must be accompanied by a responsible person aged 14 or over.
Green Scream is a great example of how Adventure Island’s coaster collection isn’t simply focused on extreme thrills.
It’s about giving families the chance to experience a proper roller coaster too.

3. Mighty Mini Mega
Then there’s the rather brilliantly named Mighty Mini Mega.
Don’t let the word “mini” fool you, though.
This compact roller coaster is located on top of the Mega City Arcade, making it one of the more unusual coaster locations you’ll find at a UK amusement park. Adventure Island describes it as a bendy, twisty and surprisingly fast coaster.
Mighty Mini Mega has a minimum height requirement of 100cm, with younger riders requiring an accompanying responsible adult.
It’s not the biggest coaster at Adventure Island, but that’s part of its charm.
The ride demonstrates that a roller coaster doesn’t need to dominate the skyline to provide a memorable experience.

4. Barnstormer
Can you remember Barnstormer?
Opened in 2000, Barnstormer is another family-friendly coaster at Adventure Island.
The ride has a minimum height requirement of 100cm and is designed to provide a faster-paced experience while remaining accessible to younger riders. Adventure Island currently lists it among its operating rides.
The aviation theme gives the ride plenty of character, with riders effectively taking to the skies in their own stunt plane.
It’s another example of the variety within Adventure Island’s coaster collection.

5. Kiddi-Koasta
And finally, there’s Kiddi-Koasta.
This is the coaster aimed at Adventure Island’s youngest thrill seekers and those who might be taking their first steps into the world of roller coasters.
Adventure Island describes it as a starter coaster for little ones, featuring two circuits, tight corners and bunny-hop hills.
There is no minimum height requirement, although guests under 120cm must be accompanied by a responsible person aged 14 or over.
For children who aren’t quite ready for something like Rage, Kiddi-Koasta provides a much gentler introduction to the world of coasters.
Five Coasters — Five Very Different Experiences
That’s what makes Adventure Island’s roller coaster line-up so interesting.
You can go from Kiddi-Koasta, designed for young children, through family favourites such as Green Scream and Barnstormer, to the compact but energetic Mighty Mini Mega — and finally all the way up to the intense thrills of Rage.
It’s quite a collection for a seaside amusement park.
And because Adventure Island itself is free to enter, visitors don’t need to buy an admission ticket simply to walk around the park. Rides can then be accessed using the park’s wristbands or other available ride options.
So, Could You Name All Five?
Here’s the challenge.
Before reading this article, how many could you name?
Rage? Probably.
Green Scream? Maybe.
But did you remember Mighty Mini Mega, Barnstormer and Kiddi-Koasta?
That’s the full current line-up of Adventure Island’s five operating roller coasters.
And perhaps that’s one of the most interesting things about the park — you don’t need to have some of the UK’s tallest or fastest roller coasters to offer a surprisingly varied coaster collection.
