After 33 Years, Kumba to Close Forever at Busch Gardens on August 2

Kumba

One of Florida’s most legendary roller coasters is preparing to close for good. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has confirmed that Kumba will operate for the final time on 2 August, bringing an end to an incredible 33-year run.

Since opening in 1993, Kumba has been one of the park’s signature attractions and helped redefine what a roller coaster could be. At the time of its debut, it was the tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster in Florida, while also featuring the world’s tallest vertical loop.

With its unforgettable seven inversions, powerful roar echoing through the park and smooth ride experience, Kumba quickly became a favourite among coaster enthusiasts from around the world. For many visitors, hearing the coaster’s distinctive roar became just as iconic as riding it.

A Roller Coaster That Made History

For more than three decades, Kumba has thrilled millions of guests and cemented its place as one of the most celebrated steel roller coasters ever built.

Its combination of speed, inversions and classic design helped inspire a generation of thrill rides, making it a must-ride attraction for visitors to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

Although newer attractions have arrived over the years, Kumba has remained a fan favourite and a symbol of the park’s commitment to world-class thrills.

A New Chapter Begins

While fans will undoubtedly be sad to see Kumba retire, Busch Gardens has already revealed what comes next.

The park has announced Kumba’s Revenge, a brand-new attraction that will continue the legendary coaster’s story. The new experience forms part of Busch Gardens’ $100 million investment aimed at strengthening its position as Florida’s thrill capital while enhancing the overall guest experience.

According to the park, Kumba’s Revenge is designed as an extension of the original attraction, ensuring the spirit and legacy of Kumba lives on for future generations of coaster fans.

Further details about the new attraction are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Final Chance to Ride

If you’ve always wanted to experience Kumba—or simply want one last ride—you’ll need to visit Busch Gardens Tampa Bay before 2 August, when the iconic coaster officially takes its final roar.

Few roller coasters have achieved the legendary status that Kumba has earned over the past 33 years. As one chapter closes, another is about to begin, but Kumba’s place in roller coaster history is already guaranteed.
