Chessington Closed Today Due to Water Outage

Chessington Issues Warning as Park Reaches Full Capacity Today

Chessington World of Adventures has announced that it will be closed today (Monday 10 August) due to a water outage affecting the local area.

The unexpected closure will come as a major disappointment to families who had planned a day at the Surrey theme park during the busy summer holidays.

According to a closure notice issued by Chessington, the decision has been made because of a water outage in the local area, with the resort advising guests not to travel to the theme park if they have tickets booked for today.

Tickets will be automatically revalidated

Chessington has confirmed that guests who had tickets booked for today will not simply lose their visit.

Tickets are being automatically revalidated under the resort’s Return Promise, allowing affected visitors to use them on a future date.

Chessington’s Return Promise normally allows eligible dated-ticket guests to return following certain circumstances, and the resort has confirmed that today’s affected bookings will be covered.

An unusual reason for a theme park closure

While temporary ride closures are something theme park visitors are unfortunately familiar with, a complete park closure because of a local water outage is considerably more unusual.

For a resort combining a theme park, zoo and SEA LIFE aquarium, access to essential water supplies is particularly important. Chessington has a number of water-based attractions and animal facilities, making the situation something that could not simply be treated as a minor inconvenience.

The park’s own visitor information highlights the range of water features and attractions across the resort, including rides such as Tiger Rock, The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure and River Rafts.

What should affected visitors do?

If you were due to visit Chessington today, do not travel to the resort expecting it to open later.

Instead, affected guests should check their booking information and Chessington’s latest updates regarding their revalidated ticket.

The closure notice specifically states that today’s tickets will be automatically revalidated and can be used on a future date.

Our View

This is a frustrating situation for everyone involved, but Chessington appears to have taken the right decision by closing rather than attempting to operate the resort without an adequate water supply.

For families who may have spent hundreds of pounds on travel, tickets, food and other costs for today’s visit, the automatic revalidation of tickets is an important step.

The timing is particularly unfortunate, coming during the summer holiday period when many families have planned their theme park trips weeks or months in advance.

For now, the most important message is simple: if you were booked to visit Chessington on 10 August, don’t travel to the resort. Your ticket will be revalidated for a future visit.

We will continue to follow the situation and bring you any updates on when Chessington is expected to reopen.
