Rhyl’s Children’s Village Could Receive £5.5 Million Makeover

Rhyl’s Children’s Village

Rhyl’s Children’s Village could be set for a major transformation as part of a proposed £5.5 million regeneration project aimed at revitalising the seafront attraction and improving links between the town centre and promenade.

The proposals were considered by Denbighshire County Council’s cabinet on Tuesday 20 October 2026, with plans focusing on creating a more attractive, accessible and welcoming public space for residents and visitors.

The scheme forms part of wider efforts to regenerate Rhyl and strengthen its appeal as a destination for families and tourists.

What Could Change at Rhyl’s Children’s Village?

The proposed redevelopment aims to transform the area around the existing Children’s Village into a new waterfront park, offering improved public spaces and facilities for the community.

Plans include enhanced landscaping, accessible walking routes, waterside gardens and areas that could host community activities and events throughout the year.

The vision is to create a more attractive environment that encourages people to spend more time in the area while making it easier to travel between Rhyl’s town centre and seafront.

Concept designs published by Denbighshire County Council also show proposals for terraced gardens, seating areas, improved lighting and a flexible events space.

The designs are intended to create a more welcoming setting for both local residents and visitors exploring the North Wales seaside resort.

Where Could the £5.5 Million Come From?

The proposed investment is linked to Rhyl’s coastal defence improvement project, with the council looking to use an underspend from the wider scheme to fund improvements around the Children’s Village.

Because the funding is connected to the coastal defence works, it comes with restrictions on how the money can be spent.

The regeneration proposals therefore focus on improvements to the surrounding public realm, accessibility and the connection between the town centre and seafront.

Part of Rhyl’s Wider Regeneration Plans

The potential makeover forms part of wider regeneration efforts intended to improve Rhyl’s visitor experience and encourage more people to explore the town.

The resort has seen several changes to its seafront attractions over recent years, making the future of the Children’s Village area an important part of discussions about the town’s tourism offer.

Improving the connection between the high street and promenade could help encourage visitors to explore more of Rhyl, benefiting nearby businesses and supporting the local economy.

A redesigned waterfront area could also provide additional space for community events and activities outside the traditional summer holiday season.

What Happens Next?

The proposals represent a potential new chapter for the Children’s Village site, although the detailed designs and delivery arrangements will determine how the project ultimately takes shape.

Denbighshire County Council previously invited residents, businesses and visitors to comment on its waterfront park proposals during a public consultation in August 2026. The council reported receiving 72 responses to its online survey, with feedback being analysed.

Further updates on the project are expected as the plans progress.

For Rhyl, the proposed £5.5 million investment could provide an opportunity to improve an important part of its seafront and create a more attractive link between the town centre and the beach.
