Universal has officially revealed the name of its upcoming Bedford theme park destination: Universal United Kingdom Resort.
The announcement marks another major milestone for the £6 billion project, which is set to become Universal’s first theme park resort in Europe when it opens in 2031.
Located on the former Kempston Hardwick brickworks site near Bedford, the resort is expected to attract millions of visitors each year and become one of the UK’s largest tourist destinations. The project received government backing earlier this year and is expected to create thousands of jobs during both construction and operation.
The name follows Universal’s existing resort branding, joining destinations such as Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Beijing Resort. It also confirms that the Bedford development will be a full resort destination rather than just a standalone theme park.
Current plans include a major theme park, a 500-room hotel, shopping and dining areas, entertainment venues, and space for future expansion. While Universal has not yet officially announced any themed lands or attractions, speculation continues around franchises such as Jurassic World, Minions, James Bond, and Paddington.
Government estimates suggest the resort could attract around 8.5 million visitors in its first year, providing a significant boost to tourism and the local economy. The project is also expected to support thousands of jobs and generate billions of pounds in economic benefits over the coming decades.
For theme park fans, the confirmation of the Universal United Kingdom Resort name is another sign that the long-awaited project is becoming a reality. Although visitors will need to wait until 2031 for the grand opening, construction work is already underway and more details are expected to be revealed in the years ahead.
