LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has taken a significant leap forward in its sustainability journey with the completion of a brand-new 1.2MW solar carport—marking a major milestone in the park’s mission to “power the magic” with clean, renewable energy.

This impressive installation, developed in partnership with Zestec Renewable Energy and installed by Mitie, is now the largest solar carport at any UK resort theme park, reinforcing LEGOLAND Windsor’s position as a leader in environmental responsibility within the attractions industry.

A Powerful Step Towards a Greener Future

The newly completed solar carport is capable of generating approximately 1.1 million kWh of renewable energy annually. To put that into perspective, that’s equivalent to the total yearly energy consumption of the Resort’s popular Woodland Village accommodation.

This substantial boost in clean energy production will help power various elements across the park, reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources and significantly cutting carbon emissions.

The solar carport at the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort demonstrates Merlin’s continued commitment to long-term sustainability and investment, delivering the ultimate guest experience. This further strengthens our mission to becoming carbon neutral in operation by 2030.

Supporting Long-Term Sustainability Goals

The solar carport forms a key part of LEGOLAND Windsor Resort’s broader environmental strategy, which focuses on:

  • Reducing carbon emissions
  • Improving energy efficiency
  • Investing in renewable energy solutions
  • Creating more sustainable guest experiences

By integrating renewable energy directly into its infrastructure, the resort is not only lowering its environmental impact but also setting a strong example for other UK theme parks to follow.

We’re proud to have helped deliver this landmark solar carport at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, with Merlin Entertainments and Zestec Renewable Energy. Together, we’re turning sustainability ambition into action; producing clean electricity, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting greater energy resilience.

Delivering renewable infrastructure within a fully operational Resort demands careful planning and disciplined execution. Working closely with Merlin, LEGOLAND® and Mitie, the team prioritised operational continuity and rigorous health and safety controls at every stage. The completed solar carport not only provides clean on-site generation but also demonstrates how energy infrastructure can be integrated seamlessly into complex visitor environments.

Enhancing the Guest Experience Responsibly

Beyond its environmental benefits, the solar carport also enhances the visitor experience. Guests parking at the resort will now benefit from covered parking—providing protection from the elements—while knowing their visit is contributing to a more sustainable future.

This initiative aligns perfectly with the growing demand from families for more eco-conscious travel and leisure options.

“Powering the Magic” Sustainably

As theme parks continue to evolve, sustainability is becoming a key focus across the industry. LEGOLAND Windsor Resort’s investment in renewable energy demonstrates how attractions can balance growth with environmental responsibility.

With this latest development, the resort is not just creating memorable experiences for families—but doing so in a way that helps protect the planet for future generations.
