There are theme park souvenirs, and then there’s the Nemesis control panel.

The original Alton Towers Nemesis control panel has now sold for a staggering £35,100, proving just how much some enthusiasts are willing to pay for a genuine piece of theme park history.

And honestly… £35,100 for a control panel?!

I absolutely understand why someone wanted it. Nemesis is one of the most iconic rollercoasters ever to grace a UK theme park. The original opened in 1994 and changed the UK coaster scene forever.

But £35,100 is still an eye-watering amount.

For that sort of money, I’d want the thing to come with its own section of Forbidden Valley!

The panel isn’t just a random piece of old equipment, though. It was used as part of Nemesis’ day-to-day operation and came with a certificate signed by legendary ride designer John Wardley, making it a genuinely special collector’s item.

Still, I can’t help wondering what the winning bidder is actually going to do with it.

Put it in the living room?

Turn it into a coffee table?

Or perhaps stand in front of it every morning shouting, “Dispatch!”

Jokes aside, this sale shows just how much emotional attachment enthusiasts have to classic UK theme park attractions. Nemesis may have changed dramatically since its original incarnation, but owning a physical piece of the original ride is about as close as you can get to owning a little piece of Alton Towers history.
