Their partner charity, SEA LIFE TRUST, is organising its fifth 24-hour global beach clean this year in an effort to further their goal of removing dangerous plastic debris from beaches, rivers, and lakes.
Building on the success of 2023, SEA LIFE TRUST is setting ambitious goals for this year’s initiative.
CEO at Merlin Entertainments said: “On September 18th, we want to go even bigger. More locations. More volunteers. More trash collected. Together, we can turn the tide on plastic pollution.”
Plastic pollution remains a critical threat to our oceans, with an estimated 8 million tons of plastic waste entering the seas each year. If this alarming trend continues, experts predict that by 2050, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish. The consequences are dire, with marine animals suffering from choking, entanglement, and poisoning caused by plastic debris.
