Inside Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point – Explore One of America’s Most Incredible Rollercoasters

Standing 205 feet above the FrontierTown area of Cedar Point in Ohio, Steel Vengeance is a rollercoaster that demands attention. Combining a towering wooden structure with modern steel track, this incredible attraction delivers huge drops, inversions and plenty of airtime.

For rollercoaster enthusiasts travelling to the United States, Steel Vengeance is one attraction worth adding to the bucket list.

In this edition of Coasters Around the World, we’re heading to Cedar Point to take a closer look at one of the park’s most famous rollercoasters.

Discover Steel Vengeance

Steel Vengeance opened at Cedar Point on 5 May 2018, transforming the former Mean Streak wooden rollercoaster into something entirely different.

Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC), Steel Vengeance uses the company’s innovative I-Box steel track technology, which sits on a large wooden support structure.

The result is a hybrid rollercoaster that combines the appearance of a traditional wooden coaster with the twists, inversions and intense airtime of a modern steel attraction.

Located in the park’s FrontierTown area, Steel Vengeance quickly became one of Cedar Point’s headline attractions.

A ride packed with thrills

The experience begins with a climb up a 205-foot lift hill before riders plunge down a 200-foot drop at a 90-degree angle.

Reaching speeds of up to 74 mph, the train then races through a series of twists, turns and airtime hills.

The layout also includes four inversions, adding another dimension to the experience.

One of Steel Vengeance’s most talked-about features is its airtime. Cedar Point highlights almost 30 seconds of airtime during the ride, making it a particularly exciting attraction for enthusiasts who love that floating sensation.

With a ride duration of approximately two minutes and 30 seconds, there is plenty packed into the experience.

From Mean Streak to Steel Vengeance

Steel Vengeance has an interesting history. Before the attraction opened, the site was occupied by Mean Streak, a large wooden rollercoaster that first opened in 1991.

Mean Streak closed in 2016, making way for a major transformation.

Rather than completely removing the existing structure, Rocky Mountain Construction reused significant portions of the wooden framework and introduced its steel I-Box track.

The transformation created a completely different ride experience while retaining a connection to Cedar Point’s coaster history.
