Safety First: Merlin Theme Parks Adapt as Heatwave Sweeps Across the UK

With temperatures expected to soar across the UK over the coming days, some of the country’s most popular theme parks are taking extra measures to ensure guests can enjoy a safe, comfortable and memorable day out.

Thorpe Park, LEGOLAND Windsor and Chessington World of Adventures have announced a range of heatwave precautions ahead of the forecast high temperatures on 24 and 25 June. In a move designed to give guests greater flexibility, visitors who already have tickets booked for either of these dates can choose to revalidate their tickets and move their visit to a cooler day up to and including 31 July.

Guests wishing to rearrange their trip are advised to visit the official park websites, where details on the revalidation process can be found.

Guest Safety Remains the Top Priority

In a statement issued by the parks, Merlin Entertainments emphasised that the wellbeing of both guests and employees remains paramount during periods of extreme weather.

“The safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority. During periods of extreme heat, some attractions or ride operations may be adjusted, and certain features, such as metal play equipment, may temporarily close if needed.”

While the parks remain open and ready to welcome visitors, operational changes may be introduced throughout the day to ensure safety standards are maintained. Guests are encouraged to check the latest information before travelling and be prepared for potential temporary ride or attraction adjustments.

Staying Cool During Your Visit

To help visitors cope with the hot conditions, free water refill stations are available throughout the parks, allowing guests to top up reusable bottles and stay hydrated throughout the day.

In addition, a wide range of outlets will be serving cold drinks, ice creams and other refreshments to help guests cool down. Shaded seating areas and indoor attractions also provide opportunities to take a break from the sun.

The parks are reminding visitors to come prepared by bringing:

  • Sun cream
  • A hat
  • Sunglasses
  • A refillable water bottle

Guests are also encouraged to take regular breaks, seek shade where possible and drink plenty of water throughout their visit.

Flexible Options for Visitors

The decision to offer complimentary ticket revalidation reflects the exceptional weather conditions forecast across much of England. Families who may be concerned about visiting during the hottest days of the week now have the option to postpone their trip without losing out.

For those still planning to visit, park teams will be working throughout the day to monitor conditions and implement any necessary operational changes to keep everyone safe and comfortable.

The statement concluded:

“Most importantly, take regular breaks, stay hydrated and enjoy your day. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, we can’t wait to welcome you for a fantastic day out.”

As the summer season begins to gather pace, the parks are hoping that these measures will help guests make informed decisions and continue enjoying magical days out, whatever the weather.
