Leading mobility retailer CareCo have put together the UK’s most grandparent-friendly theme parks.
With the summer holidays now here, grandparents will want somewhere to sit, connect and recharge as the kids, and some of the adults, take on the thrill rides!
As more grandparents take an active role in family days out during the school holidays, CareCo analysed the UK’s biggest theme parks to discover which destinations make it easiest for older visitors to enjoy a full day with their grandchildren.
The study looked at accessibility features, opportunities to rest, family-friendly attractions and the level of support available for visitors with reduced mobility.
Methodology
CareCo has taken some of the key UK’s theme parks, including the well-known and regional parks.
The ranking logic scores each park on our grandparent-friendliness using five key factors: mobility scooter hire, flat terrain, internal transport, number of cafes, and ride access pass/essential companion tickets. We then weighted each of these results to give us our outcomes.
Paulton’s Park, Drayton Manor and West Midlands Safari Park all came out on top using our methodology due to their flat terrains, internal transport and availability of changing places. CareCo caveat that whilst West Midlands Safari Park does offer the hire of mobility scooters, they also offer an accessible minibus tour, however this can only accommodate one wheelchair and isn’t suitable for mobility scooters according to their website.

Fantasy Island takes an honourable mention because, despite having no internal transport, there is scooter hire available, a huge range of places to sit, eat and rest, and flat terrain.
Alton Towers and LEGOLAND offer significant accessibility options, however due to some of the landscape of the parks such as hilly terrain, it could be more tiring for less mobile grandparents.
