Six Flags Magic Mountain in California has announced a brand-new roller coaster for 2027 that will introduce an entirely new type of ride experience.
Thrill Glider will combine flying, motorbike and suspended coaster technology to create what Six Flags is calling the world’s first Thrillglider roller coaster. The attraction is being developed exclusively for the park by renowned manufacturer Vekoma.
Riders will board specially designed hovercycle vehicles before being positioned face-down and suspended beneath the track, creating the sensation of flying.
The coaster will feature a terrain-following layout measuring 3,380 feet, with riders reaching speeds of up to 50 mph.
During the approximately 80-second experience, guests will encounter 20 different track elements, including 12 airtime moments and five inversions.
These will include:
- Wing-over
- Zero-G roll
- Overbanked stall turn
- Barrel roll
- Upward barrel roll
Thrill Glider will also feature multiple launches and a dramatic fly-by through the station.
World records expected
As the first attraction of its kind, Six Flags says Thrill Glider will set several world records when it opens.
The ride is expected to become the world’s:
- First Thrillglider
- First multi-launch Thrillglider
- Longest Thrillglider
- Fastest Thrillglider
- Tallest Thrillglider
- Thrillglider with the most inversions
The coaster will stand 107 feet tall, while the minimum height requirement will be just 48 inches.
Opening in 2027
Thrill Glider is currently under construction at Six Flags Magic Mountain and is being built on the former site of the Golden Bear Theatre, between Full Throttle and LEX LUTHOR: Drop of Doom.
The attraction will also sit next to the recently reimagined Looney Tunes Land.
Six Flags has not yet announced an exact opening date, but the coaster is confirmed to open during the 2027 season.
The new attraction looks set to give Six Flags Magic Mountain another major headline coaster and could introduce a completely new style of ride to theme park fans around the world.
